Learning to skydive... Tandem Progression
Tandem progression is offers the lowest risk, and lowest cost method for you to learn to skydive. At Plymouth Sky Sports, we treat every tandem student as if you will continue to skydive, so you get to participate fully in the skydive, all the while having an experienced instructor right behind you to make sure things go well.
During the approximately 25-minute long tandem skydiving class, you will be taught to assist in the exit from the aircraft, complete some checks in freefall, deploy the parachute, and help fly and land the parachute.
Not everyone will continue to skydive of course, so most of the participation is optional.
The first tandem skydive offers a discovery type approach to the jump, with you being offered the additional responsibility as an option. If at any time you have difficulty, your instructor will attempt to assist you. If you cannot or do not complete the tasks, your instructor will complete them for you.
The second tandem (if you are interested in learning to skydive), will prepare you for the transition to solo jumping. All of the participation options from the first jump now become responsibilities (although the instructor will assist as needed). We also add a few more items to the responsibility list. On the second tandem you will begin to respond to hand signals, and fly the parachute autonomously (following the real-time direction of your instructor).
After you complete the objectives on the second tandem, you will be progressed to the STP (Solo Training Program), where you will complete a 6-hour ground school prior to doing your first solo jump.
